Tom Hakemi advises individuals and organizations in business disputes and enforcement proceedings. His practise is focused on complex commercial litigation often involving alleged breaches of contracts, including shareholder and partnership agreements; contests for corporate or partnership control, including in oppression actions and derivative claims; allegations of fraud, defamation, anti-competitive conduct; and violations of competition and securities laws.
He is experienced in advising clients facing investigations by agencies like the British Columbia Securities Commission, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, and has experience before competition law enforcement agencies in Canada and the United States. He has counseled clients through mediations and arbitrations in a variety of contexts and jurisdictions throughout North America.

He practiced at leading firms in New York City, with a focus on antitrust and securities litigation, before founding Hakemi & Ridgedale LLP with Lisa Ridgedale. Their firm has been nationally recognized, recently becoming one of the Legal 500’s Leading Firms in Dispute Resolution in British Columbia in 2021 and the Western Canada Law Firm of the Year Excellence Award 2020 presented by Lexpert, supported by Canadian Lawyer and InHouse Magazines.
He was an adjunct professor of law at the University of British Columbia and Co-Chair of the Civil Litigation Section of the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch.
