In professional negligence claims, Ryan regularly acts as defence counsel in significant claims against lawyers, from time to time involving unique issues in relation to privilege.

In administrative law, Ryan acts for the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta in judicial reviews, and he also acts for individuals and companies seeking judicial review of administrative decisions.
