Navin Joseph Lobo

Navin is a disputes specialist who has extensive experience in complex cross-jurisdiction commercial and civil disputes and serves clients in a variety of sectors. As an advocate and solicitor, Navin handles his own advocacy in all levels of the Singapore Courts, and has also acted in arbitrations administered by SIAC, ICC, HKIAC and ICSID.

Navin has substantial experience at advising on and undertaking internal investigations in times of crisis, particularly those arising out of employment issues, corporate fraud, corruption and other white-collar crimes.

Navin also has a dedicated private prosecution/disciplinary prosecution practice, and regularly acts for statutory boards and regulatory bodies on various regulatory, compliance and contentious matters.

• Successfully represented Verona Capital Pty Ltd, an Australia-headquartered venture capital company, in its appeal against a subsidiary of a Singapore-listed oil and gas company for breach of an investment agreement concerning a failed exploration of oil and gas in Indonesia. Successfully argued that the Defendant was bound by its pre-contractual statements, notwithstanding the existence of an entire agreement clause in the investment agreement.
• Successfully represented YG Group Pte Ltd, a joint venture holding company, in a trial against its managing director for breaches of director’s duties and breaches of contract in the joint venture’s acquisition of leading cold chain logistics businesses in the People’s Republic of China.
• Acted for a manager of a fund against the leader of an international conglomerate operating primarily in the steel industry for its claim of approximately US$71m. Successfully obtained a Mareva injunction against the leader.
• Acting for Siemens Industry Software Inc, a global software company which owns the copyright of various software, in a portfolio of software licensing and compliance matters both in Singapore and in Pakistan, which includes enforcing its intellectual property rights against unlicensed users of the software and ensuring license compliance.
• Acting for the local subsidiary of a leading software producer and global enterprise IT management solutions provider in a variety of matters, including in enforcing its intellectual property and contractual rights against Indian entities (which include an Indian multinational corporation that provides IT services) for copyright infringement through over-deployment and for breaches of software license agreements, and advising on regulatory matters involving anti-bribery and corruption laws.
