Mona advises on a variety of complex, cross-border, disputes and investigations.  Mona is recognised as a market leading practitioner in civil fraud and asset tracing and has acted on some of the largest and most high profile international fraud and asset tracing cases.

She has advised a number of leading international and investment banks on a wide range of complex banking and regulatory disputes and investigations.  She also has substantial experience of advising banks and trustees and in particular offshore trustees, in the conduct of trust litigation in several jurisdictions. 

Mona has also acted in international arbitrations concerning derivatives disputes and has experience of conducting internal inquiries and investigations for a number of corporate and banking clients, in particular in relation to anti-money laundering issues.

  • Acting for a defendant in fraud proceedings brought by the Kuwaiti State Pension Fund in relation to allegations of bribery and corruption related to the placing of asset management business which has been listed by The Lawyer as one of the Top 20 Cases of 2020.
  • Acting for Kazakhstan Kagazy Plc and group companies, one of Central Asia’s largest paper and packaging manufacturers, in a multimillion-dollar fraud case against the former shareholders and directors of the group who defrauded the companies of over US$200m from bank loans and ipo proceeds intended to finance construction works.
  • Acting for a group of Kazakh defendants defending fraud claims brought against them by the Russian company Polyus gold.
  • Acting for a global energy company as defendant in proceedings issued in the High Court in England for damages, equitable claims and accounts of profits arising from allegations of the Republic of Nigeria for bribery in connection with the award of oil exploration licenses.
  • Acting for a U.S. Investment Bank and a mortgage servicer defending proceedings commenced in the High Court in England.
  • Acting for an Investment Bank defending proceedings brought in the English High Court by a borrower and hedge counterparty making allegations of misselling of interest rate swaps and claiming damages for £650 million.
  • Acting for a global payment processing company pursuing cross border proceedings against banks and third parties in Nigeria, South Africa, Sierra Leone, the UAE, the USA and England for the recovery of US$ million paid away as a result of a fraud.
  • Acting for a Bank which is a number of banks subject to an investigation by tax authorities and public prosecutors in a European jurisdiction for alleged tax fraud.
  • Acting for an international hedge fund in civil and criminal proceedings in relation to the theft of confidential information and trading strategies by a former employee.
  • Acting for a life insurance company as lender to a residential real estate portfolio borrower in connection with security enforcement and receivership proceedings.
  • Advising an international bank and Swiss subsidiary in relation to regulatory and criminal investigations in Switzerland arising from bribery and money laundering prosecutions.
