A Pomerantz Partner since 2013, Matt Tuccillo is nationally recognized as a top securities litigator.

As the Firm’s lead litigator in In re BP p.l.c. Secs. Litig., Matt litigated individual lawsuits over BP’s 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, reaching a confidential, favorable monetary settlement in 2021 for all 35 Firm clients, including public and private pension funds, money management firms, partnerships, and trusts from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, the Netherlands, and Australia. He also led the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee and served as sole Liaison with BP and the Court.

As the Firm’s lead litigator in In re Toronto-Dominion Bank Securities Litigation, Matt defeated a motion to dismiss by one of Canada’s largest banks in an action alleging a multi-year fraud arising from widespread underlying retail banking misconduct, such as unauthorized bank accounts and transactions. He negotiated a $13.25 million class-wide settlement approved by the court.

Matt currently leads a securities class action on behalf of defrauded common stock investors in McDermott International, Inc., which went bankrupt. He obtained relief from the bankruptcy court to preserve plaintiffs’ claims against McDermott’s former CEO and CFO, and plaintiffs’ claims against the bankrupt company’s insurance policies. McDermott’s common stock investors were otherwise wiped out by the bankruptcy, leaving Pomerantz’s class action lawsuit as their sole vehicle for recovery. In April 2021, the court denied defendants’ motion to dismiss, validating Matt’s complaint in its entirety, including all three alleged threads of fraud.

As lead litigator in In re KaloBios Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Securities Litigation, Matt negotiated two court-approved class-wide settlements totaling $3.25+ million from a drug company and its jailed former CEO. Significantly, he secured payments of cash and stock from the bankrupt company, approved by the bankruptcy court.

Matt was named an American Lawyer Northeast Trailblazer in 2021, a Legal 500 Recommended Lawyer in 2016 and 2021, a Super Lawyers® “Top-Rated Securities Litigation Attorney” every year since 2016, a Lawdragon Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyer from 2019 to 2021, Lawyer Monthly’s 2018 U.S. Federal Tort Lawyer of the Year in 2018, and an AV® Preeminent™ Martindale-Hubbell peer-rated attorney since 2014.
