John Hueston has been described by Chambers USA as “the best lawyer of his generation,” with a “commanding reputation for his trial advocacy.” Rated one of the nation’s top trial lawyers, he has been recognized twice as a “California Lawyer of the Year” by California Lawyer magazine; recognized as a “California Trial Lawyer of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation; and recently counted among the “Top Lawyers of the Decade” by the Daily Journal.
Mr. Hueston’s high-profile, bet-the-company trials and representations of iconic business titans attract worldwide focus and are often historic. Mr. Hueston served as lead prosecutor in the successful three-month “business trial of the century” (“Lay and Skilling to Get Their Day in Court,” Dealbook) against former Enron CEOs Jeffrey Skilling and Ken Lay. He recovered $5.15 billion after trial in Tronox v. Anadarko, the nation’s largest environmental fraudulent transfer case. On behalf of William Koch in his worldwide crusade against wine fraud, as chronicled in the bestseller The Billionaire’s Vinegar, Mr. Hueston won an eight-figure recovery after a three-week jury trial in New York. Mr. Hueston also defeated the SEC’s contempt action against Elon Musk for alleged improper tweeting. (“How Hueston Hennigan Steered Tesla’s Musk to Safety,” American Lawyer [“a clear win for Musk’s lawyer, John Hueston”]).
In the past year alone, Mr. Hueston obtained a complete federal trial defense victory for PriceWaterhouseCoopers in a case involving breach of contract and retaliation claims; won a $25 million IP jury verdict against Samsung in the Eastern District of Texas; and obtained a complete defense judgment for Amazon after a two-week trial in a case promoted by eBay as an international RICO and fraud conspiracy to unlawfully recruit eBay sellers to Amazon. (“EBay Accuses Amazon Managers of Conspiring to Poach Its Sellers,” The New York Times; “eBay files lawsuit against Amazon over ‘seller recruitment,’” BBC).
