Case highlights for the firm include representing YIT in several lawsuits concerning the recovery of commitments to end a series of contracts. In another case the firm represented Smartwings in a series of disputes regarding passenger rights, passenger compensation claims and disputes regarding claims from contracts with travel agencies. Another case highlight for the firm was representing FKP Sojuzplodoimport in court proceedings for the determination of ownerships to certain international trademarks.

Dentons

The litigation and dispute resolution department at Dentons Slovakia is led by Peter Kubina and Daniel Lipšic who led the majority of the cases during the research period.

Case highlights for the firm during the research period include representing Universal spa in civil and enforcement proceedings against the former executive director of the company regarding his fraudulent actions. In another case the firm is representing a Russian entrepreneur in extradition proceedings regarding the alleged crime of fraud to the Russian Federation. The client denies all the charges and is trying to avoid being extradited to Russia. Dentons are also representing the defrauded shareholders of Technopol Servis in criminal proceedings regarding a claim for damages that was caused by the fraud.

Peterka & Partners

Peterka & Partners is a full-service law firm and has a focus on commercial litigation and arbitration cases. Andreas Butašová and Jan Makara are key partners in the firm and led the majority of cases during the research period.

Key cases include advice to FirstFarms Gabcikovo in several litigations against the Financial Directorate of the Slovak Republic. The firm are represening a client in tax judicial proceedings; the details of the case are confidential.

RUŽIČKA AND PARTNERS

The litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution team at RUŽIČKA AND PARTNERS consists of 11 lawyers, the head of the department is Šarlota Štosová.

During the research period the firm represented the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic in a lawsuit initiated by Stavoinvesta. The firm also represented Železnice Slovenskej republiky in administrative proceedings and civil lawsuits that are related to investment projects. Another case highlight for the firm is advising the mobility division of Siemens in court proceedings on the ineffectiveness of a public lighting contract in Bratislava.

SCHWARZ advokáti

The litigation department at SCHWARZ advokáti is led by Andrej Schwarz. The department specialises in competition law, corporate and dispute resolution.

Case highlights for the firm during the research period include representing Metrans in a complaint proceeding with the European Commission against Slovakia for the alleged breach of state aid rules connected to the funding of construction of four intermodal terminals in Slovakia. In another case the firm defended a private individual in a financial dispute that was to be settled before the arbitration tribunal. The firm is also representing a number of private individuals in employment lawsuits challenging unlawful termination of the client’s employment contract.
