Firm Overview: Founded in 1934, Wiggin and Dana is a law firm with a global reach with attorneys in Connecticut, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Palm Beach. Consistently recognized by Chambers USA and Benchmark Litigation among others, Wiggin and Dana’s attorneys offer a full range of legal services to a diverse client base, including Fortune 100 finance, insurance, defense, aerospace, and life sciences companies, hospitals, universities, non-profits and high-net worth individuals.
Our primary mission is to provide our clients with the highest-quality legal services in an efficient, cost-effective and responsive manner to help them achieve their goals. We believe Wiggin and Dana exemplifies the best of the old and new—a proudly independent firm devoted to excellence and dedicated to crafting innovative solutions for our clients.
Wiggin and Dana remains committed to providing every client, large and small, with the personal attention and skill of the firm’s partners. We take the time to understand each client’s needs and goals and assign to each matter a sensible number of lawyers with appropriate experience and skills. This focused approach enables us to provide intelligent, practical and economical counsel.
Litigation Overview: In Wiggin and Dana’s Litigation Department, we try cases – frequently – before juries, judges, arbitrators, and agencies across the country, and even abroad. Whether we are retained to handle general commercial litigation and appeals, white collar criminal defense, or matters specific to certain industries (such as healthcare, franchise and hospitality, pharmaceutical and medical device, and aerospace and defense), we bring the same savvy, integrity, judgment, and hard-won experience to each assignment. Our litigators go toe-to-toe with the best law firms in the country.
The firm lawyers give the same dedication to pro bono clients as to the major institutions on their client roster. For example, in the past five years, Wiggin and Dana litigators prevailed at trial in a Section 1983 civil rights action, and settled another Section 1983 action on the eve of trial. In a Criminal Justice Act case we achieved two successive appellate victories in the Second Circuit on behalf of a prisoner convicted of Espionage Act violations.
Wiggin and Dana prides itself in the talent, drive, and integrity of its litigators. The firm’s deep bench includes leaders of the bar who have been honored with fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American College of Appellate Lawyers, membership in the Product Liability Advisory Council and recognized in Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, The Legal 500, BTI Client Service All-Stars, as well as in The Best Lawyers in America, Guide to the World’s Leading Litigation Lawyers, and The International Who’s Who of Commercial Litigation Lawyers. Most recently, Benchmark Litigation selected our department as the 2020 Connecticut Litigation Department of the Year, and our appellate and white collar practices have recently been recognized as stand-out practices.
Wiggin and Dana recruits and cultivates talented associates, who come from highly ranked law schools, clerkships (our litigators have had over 30 clerkships), and from top national and international law firms. Our litigators have had distinguished careers as federal prosecutors, and collectively have well over 100 years of law enforcement and government experience. We encourage you to review the profiles of our litigation attorneys on our website.
